Branston Ltd has donated £5,000 to Kesteven Children in
Need (KCiN) which will make a difference to children of local
families struggling with financial pressures and other issues.
The UK's leading potato supplier based near Lincoln has donated
the cash to KCiN to help towards the purchase of brand new
equipment. The £5,000 donation is expected to pay for a long
list of equipment including:
• 12 washing machines
• 20 stair gates
• 20 fire guards
• Ten nursery places
• Eight cots
Lucy Lee, chairman of KCiN, said: "We are very grateful for such
a substantial donation which will make all the difference to many
local families. We get daily requests from health professionals for
items like washing machines, safety equipment and emergency nursery
provision. This generous donation from Branston means we can
provide so much more to local families in need."
KCiN covers the North and South Kesteven District Council areas
which is more than 700 square miles stretching from Lincoln to
Stamford and Grantham to Boston.
KCiN treasurer Alex Howard added: "The donation from Branston
gets our 2011 fundraising effort off to a fantastic start.
£5,000 will buy a great deal of vital equipment for people
living locally."
Every penny is spent where it is needed - keeping children safe,
away from harm and encouraging normal healthy development, she
added.
As a "roots based" charity, KCiN helps children deal with the
consequences of family breakdown often caused by issues such as
drugs, alcohol, abuse, unemployment, divorce and underage
pregnancies.
The charity was set up in the 1960s when a group of Lincolnshire
parents gave blankets and bedding to local families struggling with
financial and emotional pressures.
KCiN is still run entirely by volunteers and its aim over the
years has not changed. It still strives to provide the practical
help necessary to make a real difference to local
children.
Branston MD Graeme Beattie handed over the cheque to Mrs Lee and
Mrs Howard.
He said: "We are delighted to support this excellent charity.
The Kesteven region is a wide area and a place where many of our
people live and work. We felt that this is a local charity we
wanted to support."
KCiN raises £20,000 every year and relies on fundraising
events, donations and volunteers. The charity answers requests made
via health visitors, social workers or teachers. Other fundraising
events this year include a charity golf day on 6 May at Blankney
Golf Club for golfers and businesspeople. For more details, visit
