Birmingham Conservatoire, part of Birmingham City University,
celebrates its 125th anniversary this year - and the prestigious
music college faces the future with confidence with exciting plans
for a new home.
It is proposed that the Conservatoire would relocate from its
current home at Paradise Circus to a nearby city centre site.
This move is part of the wider development for Paradise Circus,
which is being led by Birmingham City Council and developer Argent.
Positive negotiations are on-going and the University plans to make
a detailed announcement later this year.
To support the Conservatoire's world-class education the
earmarked premises would be fully fitted with purpose-built
facilities. Also planned is a new 475-seat concert hall on
Centenary Way, which will run from Centenary Square to Chamberlain
Square.
"We're delighted to be part of a city - and a University - that
is serious about our development as one of the UK's leading
conservatoires," said David Saint, Acting Principal for Birmingham
Conservatoire.
He added: "We plan to make further announcements about our new
home later this year, so watch this space.
"We look forward to sharing our vision, not just for the
immediate future - but for the Conservatoire's growth and
development in Birmingham towards our 250th birthday in 2136."
