A business initiative pioneered by a bank's business manager in
Hinckley is set to become a permanent fixture.
Barclays Damion Latham has set up a network aimed at supporting
existing companies and helping people who want to set up their own
businesses.
The initiative was launched at the Atkins Building where
Barclays showcased the services they provide for businesses.
Delegates included, Judith Sturley, Senior Generation Office,
Paul Coughlan, Chair of the local Federation of Small Businesses
and Martin Littlejones, local manager of Business Link Leicester
and Warwickshire.
Mr Latham said: "The idea was to bring together the local
business community to provide a networking opportunity. Nearly 50
people attend.
"All were greatly enthusiastic and everyone agreed that these
should become regular initiatives.
One of the great benefits was the promotion of the Atkins
Building. Many people said they had driven past it regularly but
had no idea of its fantastic facilities, including the café
and creative arts and gallery space."
Businesses were invited to take along promotional material and a
local florist displayed some of their work.
After an introduction by Mark Pollard, Area Manager, Barclays
Business Warwickshire, delegates were invited to speed
network.
One delegate said: "Really informative and a fun approach to
networking. I never thought I could sell to over 40 people in 45
minutes!"
Damion Latham said: "It was great to be able to let people know
that Barclays was open for business and how they can support local
companies.
Six prizes, including two tickets to a Premier League game, were
raffled.
A total of £160 was raised for the Mayor of Hinckley's
Connexions charity, which supports young and vulnerable people in
finding housing and work. Barclays have offered to match the total
money raised by the Mayor's appeal.
