One of the West Midlands' oldest golf clubs is to host a 1940s
themed evening to celebrate St.George's Day.
Walsall Golf Club has joined forces with Pure Nostalgia to
organise the April 23rd (7pm-12.30am) event, which will feature an
indoor street party, a 1940s buffet including spam fritters and
corned beef hash, and music from the era.
And guests will only be allowed to enter the 104-year-old venue
if they are wearing 1940s costume, or red and white to celebrate
England's patron saint.
Club Vice Captain Steve Ellis said: "One of the benefits of
membership of Walsall Golf Club is the varied social programme.
"We have a packed calendar this year including a Ladies Night
later this month, a 70s and 80s Night in May, the Captains Day in
June and entertainment from a Jim Reeves tribute act in
September.
"We also have a number of golfing events including the PGA
Alliance Golf Competition in April, the Staffordshire PGA Matchplay
event in May, and the West Bromwich Albion Former Players
Association Golf Day and Dinner in June."
The 40s Night is the latest social event to be held at the
Broadway club, following a sell-out performance from Take That
tribute band Want U Back at the beginning of March, which was
attended by over 130 members and guests.
Walsall Golf Club was established in 1907 and was designed by
Alister MacKenzie, who was also responsible for the famous Augusta
course, which is now the home of the US Masters.
Membership of the Golf Club is available both to playing and
social members and with it the chance to enjoy the facilities of
the Club and the wide range of social events. The Club has thriving
ladies and juniors sections, so welcomes families and all types of
players.
