Longland Safety Management, Leicestershire's leading Health & Safety specialist, has launched a new environmental management services division to complete its portfolio and provide a 'one-stop shop' for businesses looking to keep ahead of new legislation.

The Lutterworth-based Health & Safety consultants and trainers took the decision to concentrate on the environmental sector after demand from both clients and suppliers skyrocketed. The new division focuses on all aspects of professional environmental management including energy efficiency, waste management, noise assessment and auditing. It also provides advice and assistance to organisations wishing to accredit to both BS8555 and ISO140001 standards, the latter being the minimum requirement to undertake work on the 2012 Olympics, which has a build programme badged as the largest peace-time operation the UK has ever undertaken.

Managing director, Paul Longland and consultant Gill Eldridge will lead the division, which can act as a standalone service or be integrated with Health & Safety management services to provide a bespoke, turnkey package for all types of business ranging from SMEs through to national PLCs.

"Traditionally environmental management has always been associated with Health & Safety but since the national push towards the Green Agenda, it has become a discipline in its own right," explains Paul. "For Longland, it is a natural progression of the company's development to launch the division, which we are predicting will make a significant impact in reducing our clients' costs as a result of improved energy efficiency for example, increasing new business opportunities and ensuring adherence to legislative changes."

Since the launch, Longland has won several new contracts including an environmental noise impact assessment across several sites for a major infrastructure/power supply upgrade in London on behalf of a national, blue-chip energy company.
