Work is underway on a purpose-built £5 million care home
in Birmingham which will create 160 jobs when it opens next
year.
Labour MP for Erdington Jack Dromey went along to see the first
spade being dug into the ground of the 68-bedroom home for elderly
people with dementia in Gravelly Lane, Erdington.
Absolute Care Homes (Central) Limited is building the
three-storey home which is due to open in March 2012 and will be
financed by Yorkshire Bank's Financial Solutions Centre (FSC) in
Birmingham.
Martin Pawar, of Absolute Care Homes, said the development will
lead to the creation of nursing, care assistance, laundry,
cleaning, cooking and gardening jobs.
"We really appreciated Mr Dromey coming along to see work start
on this exciting new development," he said.
"Work has now started on levelling the ground to build the home.
Twenty en-suite single bedrooms will be built on the ground floor
and there will be 24 bedrooms on each of the first and second
floors. Two lifts will serve the first and second floors.
"Each storey will have three or four lounges where residents can
relax and meet each other and will also have two dining areas.
"There will also be a kitchen, laundry room, landscaped gardens
and parking for residents, visitors and doctors.
"We will require around 160 staff since we will be providing
round-the-clock care."
Martin is also currently creating two more care homes in
Streetly Road and College Road in Erdington.
Neil Reddington, business banking partner at Yorkshire Bank's
FSC in Temple Row, said this was an exciting development for the
area which would also provide a jobs boost.
He said: "This is a growing sector and Martin has a great deal
of expertise in the industry.
"He previously had 18 care homes from Lincolnshire to Yorkshire
employing 1,600 staff which he sold three years ago and he is now
concentrating on building new care homes in the Midlands.
"I am sure with his background and entreprenurial spirit that
the care homes will be a success."
