Work has begun this week to transform a well-known building in the centre of Bridgnorth that has lain largely empty for several years and is being given a new lease of life by a town business.

The Old Police Station in Whitburn Street has been acquired by Stanton Ralph & Co, Chartered Accountants and is being converted into new offices for the practice, transforming a redundant site into a modern and attractive building.

Renowned local architect Vic Johnson of the Johnson Design Partnership has come up with radical designs for the building to create an extremely eco-friendly and efficient working environment.

Philip Wood, a principal of Stanton Ralph & Co, said: "This very innovative project will provide us with practical, energy efficient new offices and client parking, and should be completed during the summer.

"We are delighted to be able to expand, enabling us to continue serving our clients and their local business needs, whilst remaining in a town centre location."

Award-winning building contractors, Three Pines of Wolverhampton, are undertaking the complete refurbishment and extension of the building.

Three Pines managing director Alan Bradshaw commented: "We are delighted to be working with these Bridgnorth businesses on such an exciting project to revitalise this historic building.

"We have over 50 years' experience in the construction industry which enables us to carry out the conversion project with due care and consideration for both the building and its surroundings."

Architect Vic Johnson added: "We have designed several exciting office projects for companies across the UK and it is particularly important to us to be creating a new environment for successful accountancy practice Stanton Ralph and Co.

Stanton Ralph & Co currently operate with a total of 16 principals and staff at The Old Grammar School in St Leonard's Close and have been established in the town since 1974.
