To be in the top three of anything is considered good and for one Coventry entrepreneur, good things come in threes, especially if you are a local business.

Simon Hill, the founder of Summit Marketing Solutions, set up his on-line company while studying at Coventry University.

Two years on, he has now launched 'TheTop3' an on-line directory whose aim is to give a select number of businesses in all areas across the UK, the chance to have their companies featured on his website.

Simon has recently reached the thousand mark of businesses using his nationwide service.

"The difference with this directory," said Simon, "is that we only feature three great businesses from the same trade so when people use our website, they don't have the hassle of wading through hundreds of different businesses in order to get what they want.

"In any one area, TheTop3 will only list, for instance, three plumbers, or three accountants and those who sign up will secure their place and gain that competitive edge. Some listings are already full so it is important that businesses get registered sooner rather than later."

The service was, up until recently, free of charge but since Simon announced that the website was becoming subscription only, many members have already upgraded their account.

Simon added:

"With subscription fees at £3 a month or £33 a year, I believe it is extremely good value for money. We are also offering free profiles for charities for reciprocal links on their websites. However, as with the businesses, we will be limiting it to three charities per area."
