A local schoolgirl has been helping Branston Ltd to come up with
a design for a new lorry livery….and the potato people are
'wheely' pleased with her eye catching idea.
Ten year old Chloe Dearden, from Metheringham near Lincoln, came
up with a new lorry creation after Branston launched a competition
asking local children to help them come up with a fun and
innovative design.
The UK's leading potato supplier invited local children to draw
or describe their ideas and send them in, with the lucky winner
having theirs professionally designed and put on to the next new
Branston lorry.
Chloe's design was chosen out of over 100 fantastic entries and
she has now been invited along to visit Optima Design, a
Lincoln-based creative agency, where she will see her idea
transferred onto a computer by a professional graphic designer.
Over the last year, Branston has been livening up its liveries
and now has a fleet of 13 striking lorries which it uses to
transport potatoes around the country. The fleet features a range
of potato health messages along with all sorts of different takes
on popular TV shows. In fact there are no limits, if an idea could
be developed into an amusing livery then Branston will get it on
the road!
Chloe, who attends Branston Junior School, used the recent come
back of boy band Take That as the inspiration for her design.
Chloe said: "I had to do quite a bit of thinking to come up with
a design I thought would be funny. I came up with Take That because
I like them and they have been in the news a lot because of Robbie
getting back together with them. I was so surprised when I was told
I had won, I think my friends were really jealous.
"It's been really interesting to see how the designers have
turned my picture into a lorry. They have shown me how they have
made the potatoes look like people. My favourite part will be
seeing the lorry when it is ready to drive though. I can't
wait!"
Branston's account director Jo Parish said: "We launched our new
livery designs over a year ago and have had such a great response
from the general public. So much so that people even take the time
to send us emails telling us how great they are! The public, our
own staff, drivers and hauliers all keep giving us new ideas so
we're determined never to have two the same.
"The designs on our lorries were originally created to attract
the attention of a younger audience. The purpose of this
competition was to get our next generation of consumers loving
their spuds even more by designing their own livery. Chloe's design
is a real winner for us as it's not only fun, but will also appeal
to people of all ages."
Chloe's design will be transferred to a brand new livery in the
next few months with the lorry due to go out on the open road later
this year.
