Local Leamington solicitor, Neil Raiseborough of Alsters Kelley
LLP, wants to encourage local people to watch the new primetime
BBC2 series "You can't take it with you" as a reminder to make a
will.
The series, hosted by Sir Gerry Robinson, is at its mid point
and it has already lifted the curtain on some of the taboo issues
concerned with making a Will. It has already highlighted
circumstances, which make putting in place the right Will, a
fundamental task to do properly. Crucial subjects covered so far
include guardianship issues, Islamic compliancy, family business
succession problems, providing for children from a prior
relationship yet needing to provide for a new spouse, the impact of
charitable gifts, the favouring of different children.
Mr Raiseborough, who is a Partner and Head of Private Client at
the firm, specialises in Will drafting. He commented: "The series
has been very entertaining and informative and it has been
refreshing to see that what we do on a daily basis is very
important to get right."
"In today's modern society where family and financial
circumstances are so complex, it makes it harder to navigate the
minefield of making sure that your estate is left fairly between
your loved ones.
He continued: "The series shows that to get your Will right may
mean that a simple DIY Will is not appropriate and that a
professional advisor is needed
Now more than ever is a key time to make sure that you address
your Will because as the programme suggests, you can't take it with
you, but you can leave behind a terrible mess which you never know
may feature in a new series.
