Shropshire solicitors acts for breast cancer victims who have been wrongly diagnosed

A Shropshire-based law firm is acting for victims of wrongful diagnosis of breast cancer.

The medical negligence team at Linder Myers Solicitors, which has offices in High Street, Shrewsbury, has secured an offer for considerably more than the 'insulting' £5,000 offered to victims who secured payouts through the NHS Litigation Authority

The case of fourteen women who were wrongly given the all-clear after a series of screening blunders was highlighted in the national press on 2nd February 2011. All of the women had been treated at hospitals across Lancashire.

Linder Myers Solicitors is acting on behalf of women involved in substandard oncology care and cancer examination/treatment provided by East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.

The General Medical Council is investigating the East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust over the standard of radiology care provided to women, whom had undergone breast examination and mammograms through 2005-07. In September 2009 it was revealed that 355 mammograms were to be re-checked after hospital colleagues raised concerns over the standard of radiology treatment.

Not only can a Solicitor provide guidance as to the legal tests involved, additional support can be provided in terms of settlement advice and settlement negotiations on a Claimants behalf.

Trevor Ward, partner head of the Medical Negligence team at Linder Myers who acts out of the Shropshire office, said: "Our involvement in this case highlights the difference between those who have access to and are able to afford legal advice, and those who do not.

"With the changes to legal aid being made later in the year, patients like this run the risk of settling for significantly reduced payments compared to what they are entitled to and could achieve with legal representation."
