Hundreds of people from across the Midlands are gearing up for
this year's Shropshire County Show as entries for the livestock
classes begin flooding in.
The 2011 event will take place at the Berwick Road agricultural
showground in Shrewsbury on May 14 and 15 and thousands of people
of all ages are expected to flock to the town.
But it will not just be people making their way to the ground as
cattle, sheep, pigs horses and many more from across the region
will also make the trip.
Keith Brown, trustee and pig chairman at the show, said: "There
is a lot of interest in the livestock attractions at the show
in May with many more classes and new sections this year. The
schedules are now going out to livestock exhibitors and the office
is receiving a lot of requests for them. We hope this demand
continues and as many people as possible support the show to make
it the success that Shropshire deserves.
"The Poultry Section is back this year, now under Poultry Club
rules with over a hundred classes over the two days, and the Pig
Section, with its new pig ring, is now a fully accredited British
Pig Association show.
"With an excellent turnout of over 60 pigs last year, we look
forward to having many more in 2011 when some of the winners
will qualify for the very prestigious BPA Pig of the Year
competition.
"Another event this year is a qualifying round for the Royal
International Horse Show which should attract some of the best
horses and riders in the country."
