A new Shropshire hotel has been named as one of the top ten boutique hotels in the country in a national newspaper.

The Lion + Pheasant in Wyle Cop, Shrewsbury, opened its doors shortly before Christmas and is proving a hit with visitors and tourism bosses.

The hotel has been listed as number two in the top ten boutique hotel stays under £100.00 in the travel section of the Sunday Mirror.

The newspaper said: "This family-owned hotel in Shrewsbury has had a head-to-toe makeover and is now one of the most stylish in Shropshire. 

"Each of its 22 en-suite bedrooms is individually designed, with plush linens and silks. There's even an oak-trussed loft bedroom with a free-standing Victorian bath. 

"The hotel also has two bars, including the Inglenook, with a roaring open fire, stocked with Shropshire real ales and affordable wines (the hotel has an extensive wine cellar). 

"Hungry? Take a seat in the beamed restaurant and dine on top-notch food by chef Alan Dann."

Manager Jim Littler, said he and the staff are delighted at the recognition they are receiving.

Double rooms at the hotel are available from £95 per night, B&B.
