Tim Latham, a business consultant who lives in Barrowden,
Rutland has been awarded a sought after travel Fellowship by the
prestigious Winston Churchill Memorial Trust.
Tim, who was interviewed a couple of weeks ago by the trust's
council members including Lord Bill Jordan (ex BBC Governor) , Lady
Eatwell (BBC Last Choir Standing) and Dinesh Dhamija (founder of
eBookers) has just been told by the trust that he will be sponsored
to travel to the USA and spend time in some of their cities that
are regarded as the most innovative and then bring that learning
back to share with East Midlands businesses and regional
development organisations.
Speaking just after receiving the news Tim said "I only heard
about the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust by pure chance last
year, looked them up on the internet and quickly applied as it was
a week or so before the closing date. They have given me a
once in a lifetime opportunity by both funding and giving their
seal of approval, to this research, my aim is that our region's
businesses will benefit from what I discover in Seattle, Silicon
Valley and Pittsburgh".
The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust was established in 1965 as
a living memorial to Sir Winston Churchill and every year sponsors
British citizens to go abroad and research projects that will
benefit the individual, and the UK as a whole.
"Whilst of course I was aware of Sir Winston Churchill and his
leadership, I hadn't been aware of his tremendous legacy in terms
of promoting international travel and understanding. The detailed
planning starts now and I'm determined to attack it with
Churchillian resolve" said Tim.
