A team of adventurous golfers - including two from Pershore firm
Chalcroft Construction - are taking on a new challenge this
week.
On February 10 they will be swapping the fairways and greens for
the mountain paths of Kilimanjaro, in Tanzania.
The group, including Chalcroft contracts managers Andy Hardy and
Dean Cook, together with friends Antony and Wayne Kilford, Chris
Allen and Rob Crawford regularly meet and play golf at The Sherwood
Forest Golf Club, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.
They decided to challenge themselves to do something different
and came up with the idea of trekking up Kilimanjaro, Africa's
highest mountain. The climb is entirely self-funded but, in
addition, individuals are also raising money for their own
nominated charities.
The team members have already completed many training treks,
including walks in Derbyshire, Yorkshire and Cumbria.
Dean commented: "We thought we would challenge ourselves to do
something that was a bit different to the norm. As we are funding
the trip ourselves, we thought we would add to it by raising money
for charity at the same time."
Wayne, Antony and Andy are raising money for Leukaemia &
Lymphoma Research, Dean is raising money for the British Heart
Foundation, Rob is fundraising for Help For Heroes and Chris will
donate funds to Rainbows Children's Hospice.
A recent fundraising evening held at the golf club on Saturday
raised around £3,000 for the charities.
