Students preparing for a career in policing and the criminal
justice sector can now be confident they are on the right route for
success - thanks to this month's high level accreditation of a
Foundation degree at The University of Northampton.
The University's degree course in Policing and Criminal Justice
Studies, which was first launched in 2008, has been awarded the
nationally recognised 'Skillsmark' accreditation, an education and
training quality mark for the justice sector. This means The
University of Northampton is now one of only two higher education
providers of pre-entry police training in the UK to have achieved
this coveted status
Course Leader and serving police officer, Bob Lyman, said:
"We are delighted that our pioneering programme, put together in
partnership with Northants Police, has gained well deserved
national recognition. The award confirms the rigor and excellence
of this innovative provision and bodes extremely well for our
continuing partnership with the county's constabulary and indeed
for our work nationally in police training and broader criminal
justice work."
The path to accreditation included an extensive quality
assurance process which evaluated the design, content and delivery
of the programme in line with employer needs. Northamptonshire
Police were closely involved with the University during the
accreditation process and the final award was due to their
continued support of the programme.
The University of Northampton 's Foundation Degree in Police and
Criminal Justice Studies has been designed to equip students with
the necessary knowledge, practical, vocational and key skills to
pursue a career in the policing sector.
Students who successfully complete the Foundation Degree and the
training provided as members of the Special Constabulary are
considered for employment by Northamptonshire Police, subject to
the successful completion of the national police selection process
and current recruitment needs.
