A Midland law firm is offering half price will-writing sessions
to lend its full support to a local charity hoping to create a
lasting legacy.
Wright Hassall is one of six firms taking part in Cord's Wills
Week - from Monday, March 7 to Friday, March 11 - which encourages
people to produce a will at a reduced cost in return for leaving
the charity a gift.
Cord is based in Leamington Spa but does work all over the
world, contributing to sustainable peace through the development of
individuals, civil society and governments.
John Rouse, partner in the wills, trusts and tax department at
Leamington-based Wright Hassall, believes this presents a great
opportunity for people to start drafting a will, at a time when the
issue is in the public consciousness.
He said: "The BBC's investigation into will-writing titled 'You
Can't Take It With You' has thrown up a number of questions.
"One of the most interesting points made was that family life
these days is rarely straightforward with people marrying two or
more times and often having children from each relationship which
makes the process of planning for the future even more
complicated.
"This makes it even more important to get your estate in order
while you have the chance.
"Aspects such as power of attorney are becoming more and more
prominent within this new breed of family units.
"I think for these reasons Wills Week has come around at quite a
fitting time as the matter of drafting a will is at the front of
many peoples' minds.
"It also fantastic that as a firm we are in a position to offer
our help and support such a good cause."
