Michael Ellis MP for Northampton North visited a specialist
recruitment agency to find out first-hand about the support they
are offer to those out of work and living on benefits. And whilst
there he met jobseekers Marvin Wright and Hanna O'Brien who are
both benefitting from the service. They have both been out of work
for over 12 months and are currently looking for work.
Working Links runs several return to work programmes across
Northamptonshire with two offices in Northampton and an additional
office in Corby. From these offices and through a network of
outreach locations, the teams support those on health related
benefits, with drug misuse issues and those that have been out of
work for 12 months or more into sustainable employment.
Support for the jobseekers often includes help with CVs and
interview techniques. By linking in with local employers that are
recruiting, they have successfully helped many into work through
employer led tailored training courses. These courses up skill the
jobseekers into suitable candidates, increasing their chances of
getting the jobs.
Jason Hurn, Northamptonshire Operations Manager , Working Links
comments; "We have a very successful track record in supporting
those on benefits into work because we offer a support service that
is tailored to the needs of the jobseekers. We look at the types of
work that people can do rather than focusing on the jobs that they
can't. And our support continues whilst people are in work to make
sure that they are happy in their new roles.
Michael Ellis MP said; "I very much enjoyed my visit to Working
Links. I was particularly impressed by the friendly atmosphere in
the office and the dedication and commitment of the staff. They are
clearly highly motivated and determined to help get people back
into work."
