Local chippy frying high with success

The Great British Eatery, situated in Broadway Plaza in Birmingham has cemented it's plaice amongst the fish frying elite from across the UK, by becoming one of the first shops in the country to scoop the prestigious Fish and Chip Quality Award.

The National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF), the trade body that represents the nation's fish and chip shops, runs the scheme as a way of raising standards within the fish and chip trade, enhancing the profile of the industry.

The scheme is a way of rewarding and promoting shops that provide excellent quality products and work to the highest standards of hygiene, as well as those who show a high level of competence.

Nathan Wright, Manager at the Great British Eatery said: "The entire team worked exceptionally hard towards obtaining this award, it is a testament to the hard work and passion that we put into serving the nations favourite dish."

To qualify, each shop has to go through an inspection by an NFFF Approved Assessor who assesses the shop's presentation, hygiene and cleanliness, staff training, equipment, frying and sales skills and most importantly the quality of the cooked product.

Bill Crook, the National President of the NFFF explains: "This award sets the new benchmark for quality within the industry.  It will signal to the consumer that they can buy with confidence where the award is displayed, and it will encourage more outlets to raise their standards."

Each Fish and Chip Quality Award is valid for two years and retention is dependent on standards being maintained as validated by NFFF officials and appointed assessors.

Great British Eatery is no stranger to winning awards having scooped 3rd prize at last year's fish and chip shop of the year awards (No.1 in England, 2010). GBE only use fish from sustainable, well managed stocks and have recently introduced Mackerel onto the menu to show their support for channel 4's 'Big Fish Fight'. Pushing the boundaries of what we expect from a traditional chippy, GBE now deliver within a 2 mile radius from the shop - meaning you don't have to drag yourself away from the TV or go out on cold winters nights to enjoy their delicious food!
