A leading Birmingham charity is throwing open its doors next
month to raise awareness of its work with disabled children.
The National Institute of Conductive Education, based in
Moseley, Birmingham, works to improve the lives of both children
and adults with neurological motor disorders, such as cerebral
palsy, dyspraxia, Parkinson's and multiple sclerosis.
The Open Day on Wednesday 16th March will enable parents of
children with these conditions to learn more about neurological
motor disorders and the latest developments which can be used to
help to support them. There will be an opportunity to see some of
the work the Institute does, as well as meeting and putting
questions to staff and parents whose children already attend.
Wendy Baker, Director of Children's Services who is organising
the Open Day, explained: "Our aim at the centre is to transform the
lives of children and adults with neurological motor disorders. We
increase their motivation and encourage them to want to do things
for themselves. We offer a positive solution and hope for the
future.
"We need to raise awareness of the support available to children
and adults. Not enough people know about us, so the Open Day will
be a great opportunity for parents and health professionals to come
along and learn about the support we offer."
The event is being supported by Birmingham law firm, Irwin
Mitchell Solicitors which is working with the centre to help
promote its groundbreaking work.
Lisa Jordan, a partner and medical law expert with Irwin
Mitchell, specialises in cases involving individuals who have
acquired brain injuries and in her spare time acts as a Trustee for
the charity. She explained: "The Foundation attracts clients from
all over the UK and yet many people who live just a few miles away
are unaware of the excellent services the centre and its staff
provide.
"In March we also have National Brain Injury Awareness Month so
it is fitting that the Open Day will provide an opportunity for
local people to find out more about these disorders and the help
that is available."
The Open Day at the Foundation for Conductive Education's centre
in Cannon Hill House, (adjacent Cannon Hill Park) 14 Russell Road,
Moseley, Birmingham B13 8RD, takes place on Wednesday 16th March
from 9.30am until 12 noon.
