One of the world's leading communications technology companies has opened an additional UK office in the Coventry.

Metaswitch, whose head office is in Enfield, North London, provides carrier systems and software to a customer base which includes AT&T, BT, Cisco, Ericsson and Microsoft - and, for the past seven years, has featured in the top 15 of the Sunday Times '100 Best Companies to Work  For'.

As part of the company's expansion it has opened a new product development office at the University of Warwick Science Park's Business Innovation Centre in Binley.

John Palombo is senior vice president of international development at Metaswitch Networks and he is pleased to have found a base that meets the firm's requirements.

He said: "When Ericsson announced its withdrawal of R&D from Ansty Park, Metaswitch saw the opportunity to recruit an experienced team to further its international expansion ambitions.

"As a company we already manufacture and develop telecommunications equipment for international markets and this new office helps us to accelerate those plans.

"We looked around, but the Binley Innovation Centre was the only one that seemed to offer everything we needed - it fitted the bill perfectly.

"The location was ideal, well connected and we were keen on being close to the University of Warwick as we regularly recruit from there.

"We see our move to Binley helping us access a pool of undergraduate talent for intern roles and graduates/post-graduates for permanent positions - we have a lot to offer as one of the most exciting UK companies around."

With the new Coventry office, Metaswitch now has four offices across the country as well as three sites in the United States. It was founded in 1981 and now employs around 600 people worldwide.

Penny Robb, centre manager at the University of Warwick's Business Innovation Centre, is delighted the firm has chosen Binley as its newest location.

She said: "As is clear from the accolades they have received in recent years, Metaswitch is a fantastic organisation to be involved with.

"The fact that a company of such a size and reputation has chosen the Business Innovation Centre is great news and a testament to us and the work we do here.

"We have a great deal of experience working alongside a number of communications firms and this will stand us in good stead as we look to do everything we can to help Metaswitch continue their success."
