St. Modwen has won a Staffordshire Building Excellence Award
2011 for the successful delivery of the Staffordshire Fire and
Rescue Service vehicle maintenance unit at its Trentham Lakes
business park in Stoke-on-Trent.
Winning the Industrial category for properties over £1
million, St. Modwen received the award from the Local Authority
Building Control (LABC) in recognition of the developer's timely
delivery of the £3 million bespoke property for Staffordshire
Fire and Rescue Service.
The building works were managed directly by St. Modwen utilising
strong local subcontractor skills, and the bespoke 24,000 sq ft
property was delivered two weeks ahead of a challenging target
programme.
Mike Herbert, regional director for St. Modwen commented: "We
are delighted to have received this award and particularly to have
gained such esteemed recognition on one of the first directly
managed St. Modwen buildings. Our team worked closely with
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service from conception to
completion, using expertise in delivering construction projects to
enable build cost savings to be recommended to the Service when
agreeing the base build specification. The finished product is a
highly specified and functional building and is regarded by the
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service as an exemplar for their
service delivery. That alone was recognition enough for us, but we
are naturally delighted to have also received industry recognition
for the commitment to quality demonstrated throughout this
building."
Situated on the 400 acre Trentham Lakes business park which is
being developed by Stoke-on-Trent Regeneration Ltd, the joint
venture between St. Modwen and Stoke-on-Trent City Council, the
building provides a single location for the maintenance and
servicing of the county's 208 strong Fire and Rescue fleet ranging
from incident response vehicles to reserve appliances and all
associated equipment.
The property includes 12 vehicle servicing and repair bays
alongside a machine workshop, spray booth, storage areas and a
training/meeting room, as well as an equipment store for the
emergency response team. This will enable the maintenance of the
ladders, rescue equipment, light portable pumps, portable
generators, hose reel tubing and branches plus a host of other
essential pieces of firefighting equipment required across the
county.
Annual servicing and large repairs are carried out within the
premises with safety inspections, minor servicing and repairs
undertaken at the various 30 fire stations located throughout the
county of Staffordshire. Apprentice Fire Service mechanics also
train at the Trentham Lakes building.
An established mixed use business park, Trentham Lakes is
situated in a premier location in North Staffordshire and is widely
recognised as the home of Stoke City Football Club's Britannia
Stadium. To date, the highly successful scheme has attracted over
50 commercial occupiers across its Trade Park, Office Village and
Business Quarter, with 70 acres of the site left to develop.
Existing occupiers include Lexus, Audi, Screwfix, Pets at Home and
Glen Dimplex with onsite amenities including Holiday Inn Express,
Greens Health and Fitness, plus other sporting, retail and dining
facilities.
St. Modwen will now progress to the LABC's national award
ceremony to be held later this year.
