Downsizing success for luxury retirement living

Luxury retirement property specialist William Lewis has secured the first sale of its 'new concept,' energy efficient luxury, bungalows in Dorridge.

Within weeks of launching the scheme in Knowle Wood Road, one of two bespoke properties set to be built in landscaped grounds in the heart of the much sought after village was 'snapped up,' providing the new owners with the opportunity to 'downsize' from their large family home in Edgbaston and enjoy significant costs savings, including reduced stamp duty.

"It appealed to us for a number of reasons but in particular because right from the start, we were able to adapt the design to our personal requirements," said the retired company director who plans to move into the brand new property with his wife later this year.

"Initially we looked at a number of existing houses but none perfectly met our needs and we didn't want to get involved or have the disruption of building work and the ongoing maintenance costs of an older property. The new builds we saw just didn't provide any opportunities to change the existing specifications.

"William Lewis were not only willing to help us create a personalised,  'bespoke' home, but actively encouraged us so that we achieved everything we wanted," he said.

Solihull based William Lewis was set up by business partners Andy Foote and Andy Robinson last year to offer 'twenty first century retirement' accommodation for  the sophisticated downsizing marketing seeking properties between £800,000 - £1million plus.

The individually designed bungalows provide around 3,000sq ft of open plan living with a large master bedroom and en-suite bathroom and dressing room on the ground floor as well as the option for two or three en-suite bedrooms on the first floor, a double garage and landscaped manageable gardens.

The properties benefit from highest level energy saving features, anticipated to reduce running costs by up to 50%.

Andy Robinson said, "We are delighted to have secured a sale so soon after launching this unique concept. We have had considerable interest in the one remaining bungalow in Knowle and are now launching new sites in Hampton in Arden, Barnt Green and Little Aston.

"During my 20 years in property development I believe this is one of the most exciting concepts to really 'future proof' retirement living with the opportunity for buyers to personalise the design of their home right from the start," he added.
