Derby based radio communications specialist, Team Simoco has
completed the supply of a TETRA system for the Badak LNG (Liquid
Natural Gas) plant, Indonesia, in a contract which has seen the
company partnering with local systems integrator PT Alssa.
Operated by Indonesian company PT Badak NGL, the Badak LNG plant
is situated in Bontang, East Kalimantan, Indonesia and has the
capacity to process over 22 million tons a year, which is supplied
to countries including Japan, Korea and Taiwan.
Designed to cover an area of around 220 SqKm from a single
transmission site with four carriers, the TETRA-G system will
support over 500 radio users equipped with Intrinsically Safe hand
portables. The system has fully redundant switching for maximum
reliability and an analogue gateway to provide state of the art
digital TETRA voice and data communications throughout the plant,
as well as connectivity to legacy analogue networks.
Managing Director of PT Alssa, Dian Govindha, commented: "The
system has been deployed in the remote and environmentally
sensitive coastal region of East Kalimantan, where it will become a
central part of the plant's health and safety operations. This is a
very important development for us and we're delighted to have the
support of Team Simoco's expertise in implementing such a
prestigious project."
Badak LNG is one of the largest LNG plants in the world, having
produced over 415 million tons of gas to date. Since the discovery
of Badak Field's huge natural gas reserve in 1972, the plant has
continued to expand, with it now operating a total of eight
trains.
Ian Carr, Team Simoco's Chief Executive, says: "This is our
first TETRA system contract in Indonesia's Oil and Gas sector,
marking a very important step for us as a company. We view this as
a beachhead contract that will enable us to clearly demonstrate our
capability to local industries and through our partnership with PT
Alssa we are well positioned to expand our influence in the
region's TETRA markets."
