Coventry University continues to show its commitment to the
employment needs of graduates with the news that the Music
Technology and E-music courses have been successful in gaining
professional accreditation.
The accreditation, which is managed by Joint Audio Media
Education Services (JAMES) means that the courses are accredited by
three industry bodies - the Music Producers Guild, the Association
of Professional Recording Services and UK Screen.
The process involved two stages and took place during the autumn
term, 2010.
Firstly, course documentation and staff CVs were scrutinised by
the JAMES panel. Then, seasoned industry professionals Tony Platt,
Phil Harding and Steve Cookman spent a day at the University
looking at the facilities, and meeting staff, students and
graduates.
Chairman of JAMES, Phil Harding commented:
"We are delighted to welcome Coventry University into the JAMES
Accreditation scheme. Our Industry representatives were very
impressed with the ethos and resources. The enthusiasm of the
students on the 2 accredited courses was apparent.
"The BSc Music Technology and BSc E-Music are excellently
structured to give students what they need for a future in the
audio and media industries".
There are only twelve UK HE institutions with courses accredited
in this way and being recognised by the MPG, the APRS and UK Screen
is an indication that the courses are well run and preparing
graduates for the world of work.
Coventry University's Mark Thorley said:
"We are extremely pleased to be recognised after such a short
time offering these courses. Given the employment challenges which
graduates face, the accreditation will give them a distinct
advantage".
