A Shropshire man is set to race at the world-famous Silverstone
track - but without a racing car.
James Manders, who works for Pughs of Shrewsbury, is taking part
in the Silverstone half marathon at the world-famous venue, on
Sunday, March 6.
He will be raising funds for Childline and the NSPCC, to help
children who need vital support and advice.
"I'm running because one of my friends from university
challenged me to take part, so now there are five of us aiming to
complete the course, all raising money for different charities,"
said James.
"And we're not only competing to see who can finish in the
fastest time, but to see who can raise the most cash.
"It's quite a daunting challenge as it's not only my first ever
half marathon, but also the very first formal running event I've
taken part in."
James is well-known for his commitment to various causes and has
been a volunteer for the Red Cross for the past six years.
"I now help to train other Red Cross volunteers too, and
regularly help out at public events including Shrewsbury Town
football matches and an annual steam rally."
Pughs managing director, Peter Forrest, said: "We are very proud
of James and his commitment to raising funds for such a worthwhile
charity as Childline and the NSPCC.
"As a company we are dedicated to supporting local causes and
organisations, and James is a credit to our team as he gives up
many hours of his own time to help other people."
