Due to the popularity and success of the free valuation events
held in other parts of the Midlands, auctioneers Biddle & Webb
are holding one at Four Oaks on the 25th February.
The events are based on BBC One's Antiques Roadshow television
programme, where owners of antiques and collectibles take along
items of interest for Biddle & Webb's experts to give them an
idea as to their value.
So far the Biddle & Webb team discovered some real 'gems' on
their travels that have ended up under the hammer and commanded
some astonishing auction prices. A rare Charles II Gold Unite coin
sold for £9,750 was discovered at an event held at Walsall
Leather Museum for example.
A series of medals from the Crimean War was discovered in
Codsall. Three of the medals in the collection sold for a total
value of £15,000, to the delight of the vendor.
Owners of antiques and collectables are urged to take along
interesting and old items, or ones that have been inherited and
have a fascinating history attached to them. Wares including gold,
jewellery, coins, medals, paintings, porcelain, silverware and
other collectibles that are fairly portable and easy to transport,
will all be welcome
For those visitors that have larger items such as antique
furniture for example, Biddle & Webb's expert valuation team
will be able to give owners an approximate value of if they bring a
photograph of it along with them. Although it is not the best way
to give an entirely accurate valuation, members of the team are
always happy to follow-up any interesting items by offering a home
viewing.
Biddle & Webb's managing director, Jeremy Thornton said:
"Naturally the events are a great way to discover items that have a
certain amount of value attached to them. We do find that many of
the valuable things people bring in, they do want to sell. However
some people just want to know a little about the item or heirloom
that may have been handed down through generations.
"We are offering a completely free "no" obligation service and
the events are great fun. Everyone is welcome to bring their items
of interest, and even if people are aware that they have something
of value, it's quite nice for them to have a valuation for
insurance purposes. Or sometimes they like to seek advice on how to
clean something or have it restored for example. We are also hoping
that people will come from further afield such as Lichfield and
Tamworth."
The event is being held at All Saints Church, Bellwell Lane,
Four Oaks on Friday 25th February from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm.
