Members of staff at Hallow-based technology company, Postcode
Anywhere were pleased to hand over a cheque for £500 to the
Prince's Trust.
The majority of the £500 raised was a result of the
Birmingham Half Marathon back in October and other fund raising
activities.
Five members of staff including Gemma Britton, Tom Gurney,
Charlotte Lewis, Nicky Rhead and Rob Willis, braved the cold
morning air last autumn to compete in the gruelling 13 mile
run.
Tom Gurney ran the marathon in a record one hour and thirty one
minutes. He was among the first five percent to cross the finishing
line out of the thousands of runners competing in the event. The
team at Postcode Anywhere expressly wanted to do something for the
Prince's Trust as it is a charity helping young people in the UK
who are not in work, education or training.
Mr Gurney was educated at RGS Worcester and has a first class
honours degree in Information Technology. He feels that he was
fortunate enough to have a privileged education which led him to
his current career path at Postcode Anywhere.
He said: "A staggering one in five young people are unemployed
which costs the UK economy £10 million a day. To me the most
important issue that the Prince's Trust addresses is that by giving
young people both practical and financial support, they help them
to develop the skills and confidence to enable them to access the
job market or encourage them to become self employed."
Viv Hudson, chairman of The Trust's Development Committee for
Worcestershire and Herefordshire, is delighted that the young team
at Postcode Anywhere is committed to supporting the Trust and its
valuable work in the two counties. She said: "The Prince's Trust is
giving local young people who are finding it difficult to fulfil
their potential an opportunity to get the skills and experience
they need to get a job. It is also helping the economy by creating
many new businesses.
"The Prince's Trust is totally dependent on the goodwill and
generosity of others to fund its work and we are grateful to
Postcode Anywhere for their continued support."
