Over £8,500 has been raised for charity through 'Will Aid
2010' by leading Worcestershire and Shropshire based law firm, MFG
Solicitors.
Throughout 'Will Aid Month' in November, lawyers from across MFG
drew up Wills for 140 people - wavering their normal fees but
instead asking for a donation in return.
The money raised by MFG, who have offices on The Tything,
Worcester, will support the nine Will Aid charities. These
charities are; ActionAid, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, Age UK,
NSPCC, Save the Children UK, Sightsavers, the Scottish Catholic
International Aid Fund and Irish charity, Trocaire.
Maynard Burton, senior partner at MFG Solicitors said; "It is
fascinating that research has highlighted over 60% of people don't
actually have a Will as they misunderstand intestacy laws.
Therefore taking part in Will Aid gave us an opportunity to spread
the word that we all must plan carefully for the future and ensure
our hard-earned possessions will be passed on to those
closest."
"Our team in Worcester were busy throughout November as many
took the opportunity to have their Wills professionally prepared.
People were able to visit us and put their affairs in order whilst
at the same time help support a number of worthwhile charities. We
have been involved with Will Aid for a number of years and are
delighted to have raised such a large sum."
Suggested minimum donations were £40 for a codicil,
£75 for a single Will or £110 for a pair of mirror
Wills. The last Will Aid in November 2009 saw 17,000 people across
the UK making Wills - raising over £1.25 million for the Will
Aid charities.
Will Aid is a charity partnership founded in 1988 by Scottish
solicitor Graeme Pagan MBE following the example set by Bob Geldof
with his successful Band Aid and Live Aid events. He was moved by
the famine in Ethiopia and wanted to involve his
profession.
Since 1988 Will Aid has raised more than £8 million in
donations for the Will Aid charities.
