The University of Northampton has presented Friends of Cynthia
Spencer Hospice with £6638.97 following fundraising efforts
from staff and students in 2010.
Each year, the University selects a charity to support through
fundraising activities. Northampton's Friends of Cynthia Spencer
Hospice was chosen by University staff in January 2010 and
fundraising activities have included the annual Pancake Dash, Cycle
for Cynthia, the Run10, quizzes, cake sales, bucketeering and fancy
dress days.
Linda Davis, a lead member of the Staff Social Group at The
University of Northampton who helps to co-ordinate fundraising
activities for the selected charity each year, commented:
"We have had a successful year's fundraising and are delighted
to have presented this amount to such a worthy cause. Our
staff are very passionate about supporting local charities and
always rise to the challenge; over the past 10 years they have
donated nearly £42k to Northamptonshire charities."
Sue Bownass, Community Fundraiser, Friends of Cynthia Spencer
Hospice, added:
"The Friends of Cynthia Spencer Hospice were absolutely
delighted that The University of Northampton chose us for their
charity of the year.
"We rely on the generosity of local groups and to members of the
public to help maintain the services that we offer at a time when
people need it most.
"We are a Northampton-based charity providing a specialist
health service for people in South Northamptonshire whose illness
is no longer curable. At Cynthia Spencer Hospice, whilst the
emphasis is on dealing with the physical problems of patients to
ensure their comfort, the emotional and spiritual needs of patients
and their loved ones are also paramount.
"We have made many friends at the University and look forward to
working alongside again in the near future."
The fundraising cheque was presented to Sue Bownass by The
University of Northampton's Vice Chancellor Professor Nick
Petford.
Staff and students at the University will be fundraising for
Crazy Hats Breast Cancer Appeal in Northampton throughout 2011.
