The government's controversial Health and Social Care Bill,
published in Parliament on January 19, will have far-reaching
effects on health services, patients, the wider public and almost 1
million health workers in England.
Coventry University will be hosting a special public lecture on
Monday 7 February at 6.30pm to explain the Bill and its
implications.
The Bill is 367 pages long and appears very complex. Few
journalists have explored it in detail and it has only been
partially explained in most media reports. Few people have much
idea of what it contains.
So what is in the Bill, why is it so controversial with doctors,
health professionals, health unions, NHS employers, think tanks and
the Commons Health Committee?
What will it mean for you?
Dr John Lister, a senior lecturer in Health Journalism at
Coventry University, is an award-winning author, journalist and
veteran researcher and campaigner with 27 years of analysing NHS
and international health policy and explaining to a wider
audience.
His lecture will offer health professionals, academics,
journalists, students and the Coventry public an opportunity to
discuss the Bill and its implications.
The lecture takes place on Monday 7 February in the Ellen Terry
Building Lecture Theatre, Room ETG 34, Coventry University, Jordan
Well at 6.30pm.
