Some unusual and rare items will come under the hammer at Biddle & Webb's Toys, Juvenalia and Ephemera sale on Friday 21st January.

It is envisaged that a collection of commercial, legal and contractual documents relating to Thomas Edison and John Ferrol Monot in connection with the sale and supply of Edison Storage Batteries in the UK, will be amongst the star lots.

American Thomas Edison (1847 - 1931) was considered one of the most prolific inventors in history with a staggering 1,093 patents to his name including, the electric light bulb. A contract signed by Edison and other commercial parties with accompanying pamphlets and the original catalogues has an estimated price tag of £400 to £600.

The documents belonged to family that owned the business that the contract pertains to (J F Monot) but it was also signed by a W M Meadowcroft.

Other sale items include a 1936 first edition of 'The New Adventures of Rupert" with a conservative estimated value of £600 to £1,000. The book is in a good condition and is expected to exceed its reserve price.

The sale also includes other collectable books and sought after Dinky and Matchbox diecast toys.

Biddle & Webb's managing director, Jeremy Thornton said: "Our first sale of 2011, last week was a fantastic one and we are hoping that it will set the trend for future sales. Erring on the side of caution but remaining optimistic, let's hope the New Year will reflect an overall improvement in provincial auction houses nationwide."
