Shrewsbury is following the same cosmetic treatment trends as
London and other major cities in the country. The claim came after
figures released by the UK's largest cosmetic surgery provider
reported a boom in the non surgical beauty market during 2010, with
laser treatment leading the way.
Wendy Hartwig, who heads up the aesthetics team at The Skin
Clinic based at The Dental Spa on Shrewsbury's Oxon Business Park,
says although the most popular treatment among her clients is still
laser hair removal, she also saw a substantial increase during 2010
in the demand for skin rejuvenation techniques using light based
therapies.
"Reversing the signs of ageing and maintaining a youthful look
are high on the priority list of new patients we have seen," says
Wendy", which is perhaps not surprising when you consider that
laser and IPL skin treatments offer a far cheaper alternative to
going under the knife and, unlike surgery, produce quick results
with virtually instant recovery."
Whilst The Harley Medical Group, whose flagship clinic is in
London's Harley Street, reported an all-round 23 per cent
year-on-year growth, The Skin Clinic at The Dental Spa in
Shrewsbury saw 62% more patients in 2010 than in 2009. Perhaps
proof that despite the state of the economy, Shropshire people are
still taking considerable pride in their appearance.
A further possible reason for the growth in non surgical skin
treatments is the increase in public awareness about the dangers of
sun exposure and its dramatic premature ageing effects.
"Teenagers in this century are growing up aware of the effects
of the sun on our skin." says Wendy, "but those who are older are
actually wearing the ageing effects of the sun, with wrinkles,
broken blood vessels and age spots visible to the naked eye. It is
these symptoms of ageing that patients are asking us to reverse and
the increase in demand for treatments is being met with a wide
choice of laser and IPL technology, chemical peels, medical
microdermabrasion, dermaroller, muscle relaxant injections and
dermal fillers."
