Acting on behalf of Royal Mail, Jones Lang LaSalle has announced the sale of the former Mail Centre on Bishop Street located to the north of Coventry city centre to West Midlands based Barberry Developments for an undisclosed sum. Constructed in 1976, the property comprises 200,000 sq ft multi-storey sorting premises with ground floor loading and adjacent parking which combined totals approximately 2.04 acres.

Henry Bellfield, Director at Barberry Developments, said: "We were impressed by the pro-active nature of Coventry City Council and for a number of years have been seeking a major development opportunity within the city. When the Mail Centre came to the market we recognised the quality of the location and the huge potential of the site."

Henry added: "Working with Coventry City Council we are drawing up plans for a comprehensive redevelopment of this part of the city centre, as such we have subsequently acquired adjoining sites. Further details of this very exciting scheme will be made public shortly; however at this stage I can confirm it will comprise a mixed use scheme with potential to accommodate a supermarket superstore."

Jonathan Fear from Jones Lang LaSalle's Birmingham office who advised on the sale, concluded: "We generated credible interest for this unique site which offered a significant development/refurbishment opportunity. Undoubtedly its sale marks a new and positive chapter for the site and indeed the surrounding area; the Barberry Developments is keen to move forward its redevelopment which will further enhance Coventry's appeal."
