England rugby star Ben Cohen is turning his sporting magic on
The University of Northampton this year - coaching students,
joining Acting classes and taking part in a week dedicated to
equality and diversity.
The Northampton born father of two and former Saints player, who
now plays for the premiership side Sale Sharks, recently coached
the University's boys and girls teams. He has also joined in some
Acting classes held by the School of The Arts and will be a guest
speaker at the University's week-long Diversity Festival in
March.
Ben Cohen said:
"I am really enjoying working with the University in a variety
of ways. As a strong advocate of equality and mutual respect for
all, I am looking forward to taking part in the University's
Diversity Festival. It coincides with the launch of the Ben Cohen
Acceptance Tour for 2011 which is taking place in the UK (April)
and the USA (May).
"I am working with gay/gay-friendly rugby clubs on both sides of
the Atlantic promoting a positive message of acceptance for all.
The Tour gives hope to those who may be struggling with their own
sexuality, doubts and emotions and raises awareness of the issues
they have to face."
Bob Morsley, Project Manager for the University's Estates Team
and a friend of Ben Cohen's, added:
"Ben is studying for his rugby coaching certificate so by
working with the University he is both helping and also benefiting,
by gaining valuable experience. It is wonderful to have Ben
onboard, who is an inspiration to staff and students alike."
