A leading Midland lawyer has praised a new six-part BBC
television series which focuses on families torn over what to write
in their wills.
The Sir Gerry Robinson-fronted 'Can't Take It With You' series
deeply examines the family conflicts that can arise due to the
prickly issue of inheritance. The hour-long BBC Two show highlights
the importance of making the right decisions rather than not making
a will at all - a move that can cause families to be torn apart.
Fiona Barnes, head of the private client division at MFG
Solicitors said; "This new BBC series has come at the right time as
research has shown that making a will is something many people
overlook. It's worrying that across the country 60 percent of
people don't have a will as they misunderstand inheritance
laws."
"We work tirelessly to show people in and around Midlands what
options are available to them when it comes to their wills, so it
was very encouraging to see this new BBC series getting to grips
with what can be a thorny issue. It is shaping up to be a really
thought-provoking, interesting series.
"A will is the only way for people to ensure their wishes are
followed when they're gone and we'd hate for people to incorrectly
assume what will happen to their possessions. The lack of a will
could leave loved ones with a lot of unnecessary confusion and
upset at such a sad and difficult time."
Fiona added; "Last autumn's national Will Aid promotion helped
kick-start further awareness of inheritance issues and we helped
almost 150 people make a will during the campaign. We want to see
that trend continuing which would in turn give people peace of
mind.
"The BBC has a hit on their hands with the new series. It will
hopefully play its part in spreading the word that people must plan
carefully for the future whilst underlining the need for expert
advice to ensure a will is professionally prepared."
'Can't Take It With You' can be viewed on Friday evenings at
9pm, BBC Two.
