A local auction made a staggering sum of over £2.1million
last week.
Over 250 people turned out to the Savills Nottingham auction at
Nottingham Racecourse on Thursday 27th January. The bidding room
was packed, creating an electric atmosphere.
The sale made a total of £2,176,100, with 97% of the lots
on offer being sold to make the best sale for some time.
Chris Charlton, Auctioneer for Savills comments: "This is an
excellent result, particularly in light of the rather gloomy
economic figures released earlier in the week. These figures prove
the resilience of the auction market locally. Savills continues to
deliver for many clients during 2010 as Nottingham's leading
auction house.
Lots ranged across a wide geographical area throughout
Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and into the West
Midlands. There were numerous terraced houses across the City of
Nottingham and it was pleasing to see that some were purchased by
owner occupiers and first time buyers, competing alongside the
investment purchasers.
Acting on behalf of British Waterways, Savills successfully sold
Newark Lock House at Mill Lane, a former Lock Keepers home in a
riverside location.
One of the more unusual Lots offered was a telecoms mast at the
famous Cat & Fiddle between Buxton and Macclesfield. Earning
just over £24,600 per annum, the property was eventually sold
after competitive bidding for £228,000.
Two small redevelopment sites also showed that small builders
were beginning now to come back to the market, although the
constraints of the banks and lending institutions are still
impacting on the overall market.
The viewings during the marketing period were very high,
indicating yet again the popularity of the auction for both sellers
and buyers.
Savills already has a number of interesting lots for its next
sale which will take place at the Nottingham Racecourse on Thursday
24 March. The team is available to contact on 0115 934 8021 if you
would like to put your property in the auction.
