Oakland Distribution, a subsidiary of multi temperature supply
chain specialist Oakland International, in conjunction with The
Dairy Trader, are jubilant after securing a turnover figure in
excess of £1m as they approach the end of their first year of
successful trading.
A bespoke partnership launched in February 2010, the initiative
was explicitly intended to satisfy the UK industry's ever growing
need for small quantity fresh catering dairy product. Together
Oakland and The Dairy Trader developed their innovative scheme,
unique to the UK, whereby they offered dairy producers an
independent route to market for fresh cream, milk and chilled and
ambient dairy products for wholesale catering and food
manufacturing outlets across the country.

Under the scheme, customers can buy a minimum of 1 case of
individual product, so long as their total order for all products
reaches a combined total of 100 cases. The scheme also delivers a
number of supplemental benefits to a wide range of customers able
to capitalize on existing delivery routes and destinations which
bring the opportunity to penetrate new markets for products
suitable to the catering or convenience sectors.

solutions, produced a distribution model capable of offering
competitive prices at an extremely low distribution margin,
enabling customers to order at a fraction of the minimum order
stipulations that they would normally be required to meet if
dealing directly with multiple different niche suppliers. An
additional benefit felt by the scheme has been the extension to
Oakland's geographical reach within mainland UK, including new
delivery route solutions. Customers within the scheme also have a
much simplified receiving process with a single delivery to their
back door and one consolidated invoice representing multiple
suppliers' products.
