Employees at Halesowen based Co-Op Logistics celebrated a year
of fundraising by donating more than £1,000 to Midlands Air
Ambulance on 26th January.
The handover marked the end of the year-long fundraising
initiative after the air ambulance was named as Charity of Choice
for 2010.
250 depot employees took part in a variety of activities
including monthly golf competitions, a sponsored car wash, World
Cup barbeque and various coffee and cake mornings.
The majority of money was raised through an annual December
raffle which gave participants the chance to win a signed England
rugby shirt and an Aston Villa stadium tour.
"We had a vote at the beginning of last year amongst all the
employees and it was decided that Midlands Air Ambulance would be
our Charity of Choice", says Lisa Cappetta, Training Co-ordinator
at Co-Op Logistics.
"With it being a local Charity it received total support and I'm
delighted to be able to hand over this money to such a worthwhile
cause."
A total of £1274.81 was donated to the Charity, £190
of which was raised through the sale of Midlands Air Ambulance
merchandise.
Alison Blakeway, Events and Volunteer Co-ordinator at Midlands
Air Ambulance received the cheque stating, "This is a great way to
kick off our 20th anniversary.
Without the support from local businesses the Charity wouldn't
be able to continue saving lives across the region so we're hoping
other business will follow in Co-Op Logistic's footsteps and
support us in this very special year."
The money was raised through Midlands Air Ambulance 'Business
Matters' scheme which has partnered a number of local businesses to
enhance corporate social responsibility within the
Midlands.
Employees at sixteen Co-Operative stores across Shropshire also
did a spot of fundraising for Midlands Air Ambulance, raising
£5,000 during September 2010.
