A top Derbyshire marketing executive who has helped a
Chesterfield company export millions of pounds worth of
polyethylene pipe jointing equipment to Egypt, and fittings to
Egypt and Algeria, will be sharing his knowledge with other local
firms at a special event in Nottingham.
John Batty is in charge of Group Marketing at Fusion Group Ltd,
who have their headquarters in Chesterfield. They are a
multinational firm who support gas, water and electricity markets
worldwide. The company successfully entered the Egyptian market
many years ago, and more recently established a manufacturing plant
there. He will be among four high profile speakers appearing
at emita's Algeria, Egypt and Libya seminar at the Park Inn
Nottingham, Mansfield Road on 19 January from 5 - 7.30pm.
The event, 'Broaden your business horizons', will give companies
the chance to find out how to enter these ever expanding markets,
and comes as the Government urges companies to export more in
2011.
John said:
"Global markets are vital to Fusion's growth plans: Egypt
alone accounts for over one million pounds of turnover a year for
Fusion.
"Fusion has been selling into the Egyptian gas and water markets
for over 20 years. The key lesson we have learnt as a company in
all export markets is that you have to be in it for the long haul.
You have to show commitment to the market, embrace cultural
differences and be flexible. Never believe for one moment that the
people you are selling to are any less knowledgeable or
professional than customers in your domestic market.'
Other speakers at the event are the Marketing Manager of the
Middle East Association, the Director of Trade Services at the
Arab-British Chamber of Commerce and the Deputy Chairman of the
Libyan British Business Council.
Juliet Pask, Manager of emita, said:
"If companies want to gain the competitive edge in 2011 they
need to think about exporting. This event aims to give local
companies an introductory session to the emerging markets of
Algeria, Egypt and Libya. These countries are traditionally known
for their oil and gas industries but other significant
opportunities exist, especially now economic reforms are being
implemented to diversify away from oil and gas revenues.
"Algeria has a £150 billion infrastructure investment
programme which began in 2010. Egypt is the Arab World's most
populous nation with over 80 million inhabitants and UK exports of
goods to the country reached £945 million in 2009.
"Libya consistently ranks as North Africa's top performing
economy and the country is rapidly increasing investment in
infrastructure and is attracting more foreign interest than ever
before."
At the event companies can find out about:
· The current business climate in Algeria, Egypt and
Libya
· The many opportunities for UK companies in these
markets across a wide range of sectors including education &
training, engineering, ICT, construction, healthcare,
financial & professional services, environment and renewable
energy, defence & security and tourism.
· The key considerations for building relations with
Algerian, Egyptian and Libyan counterparts
· Significant pointers on the routes to market
· How to anticipate and overcome the challenges your
company may encounter when doing business in this region
