terms
Business owners and SMEs are being advised to review their
business contracts ahead of the upturn in the economy to ensure
that as business picks up, contract terms are robust and won't
cause costly problems.
Gavin Evans, a Commercial Resolution solicitor at Nottingham law
firm Berryman, explains: "The vast majority of businesses deal with
a variety of contractual terms on a daily basis. Good terms of
business can be a great help to the business, but bad or indeed
unenforceable terms can, and will, cost you money.
"Terms of business should be reviewed on a regular basis. Such a
review is often triggered by diversification into new markets or
geographic locations, but as a minimum, businesses should review
contracts every two years, and the start of a new year always
presents an ideal time to consider if contracts reflect the needs
of the business in the coming financial or calendar year."
Berryman is hosting a breakfast seminar - 'Contractual Terms,
the good, the bad and the unenforceable' - to highlight some of the
contract terms that have the potential to cause problems, and to
advise local small and owner-managed businesses on the issues to be
aware of to ensure contractual terms work to their advantage.
