Business Voice West Midlands (BVWM) has paid tribute to three
regional leaders who have made a real difference to the area's
economy.
BVWM executive director James Watkins said the awards in the New
Year's Honours List were recognition of years of service to the
regional economy.
Former Institute of Directors' chairman Richard Boot, who
finished a second term in the post early in 2010, was awarded the
OBE.
Mr Watkins said: "Richard has been an exceptional leader of the
West Midlands business community and his chairmanship of the IoD in
the region, combined with the leading role he played on the
Business Voice West Midlands board, has meant that vital services
are being continued to be provided to SMEs to enhance our
competitive base."
Jas Bains, chief executive of the Ashram Housing Association,
was awarded the MBE.
"Jas has been tireless in ensuring that poverty is tackled here
in the Midlands. Also, as a leading member of the National Housing
Federation, Jas played an important role in Business Voice West
Midlands. His honour is well deserved," said Mr Watkins.
And he also praised Andy Parker who received the QPM for his
work as Deputy Chief Constable of Warwickshire Police.
"Andy has played a critical role in ensuring people and
businesses in Warwickshire can go about their lives in as secure a
manner as is possible.
"In addition, Andy played a critical role with Business Voice
West Midlands in the formation of the West Midlands Business Crime
Forum which is doing so much to reduce crime against businesses
across the region," he said.
