BHJ UK Protein Foods Limited is backing the tenth annual West
Midlands Tastiest Sausage Competition 2011.
The Tipton based ingredients manufacturer has joined forces with
HEART of ENGLAND fine foods (HEFF) as the official event sponsor in
a quest to find the 'tastiest breakfast sausage' and 'tastiest
speciality sausage' in the West Midlands.
The three-day sizzle off from 18th -20th January will end in a
live grand final on 27th January at The Aga Shop in the Mailbox,
Birmingham when the winners will be decided.
BHJ will join the judging panel of regional food experts as the
only producer to offer British Quality Assured Pork (BQAP)
accredited DRINDE®, which is a versatile functional meat
ingredient which helps bind fat and water while delivering
excellent textural properties and value in pork-based
products.
Richard Parnell sales director of BHJ UK says it is a crucial
time for British food producers and manufacturers to join together
to celebrate locally sourced products.
He said: "We're delighted to be throwing our support behind this
regional competition to help raise awareness of locally sourced
products and also help butchers throughout the region gain the
recognition they deserve for producing the tastiest British
sausages.
"With proposed European regulations likely to become law over
the next couple of years requiring manufacturers that use the
country of origin labels on meat products to indicate where the
animal came from, there is increasing consumer and retail pressure
to use British sourced products.
"This brings increased demand on retailers and foodservice
operators to provide this information and it will therefore become
evermore common to see such declarations on products such as
sausages, burgers etc."
The competition is open to any butcher in Staffordshire,
Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire and
Birmingham and Black Country.
Vicki Collins, communications and events executive from HEART of
ENGLAND fine foods, said: "We are delighted to have BHJ Protein
Foods on board as principle sponsors of the tenth annual West
Midlands Tastiest Sausage Competition and hope the representatives
attending the judging enjoy the delicious sausages the region's
butchers have to offer."
