Shepherd Engineering Services (SES) has selected communications
solutions integrator Amillan to provide the ICT infrastructure for
the new build Bournville College project in Longbridge, Birmingham.
Being such a landmark location, the contract was hotly-contested
and is a significant win for Solihull-based Amillan.
The College is consolidating its three existing campuses onto a
£66 million campus on the former MG Rover site due for
completion in September 2011. New Bournville College is part of a
£1 billion redevelopment project of Longbridge, after the
collapse of MG Rover works in 2005. The win allows Amillan to
participate in one of the flagship building projects in Birmingham,
and is another Midlands college ICT project for Amillan's portfolio
following its success with Walsall College and City College,
Birmingham.
SES selected Amillan for this prestigious project for many
reasons, but in the main, Amillan proved without doubt its
experience, design and technical knowledge, along with competitive
advantage, provided the best solution for SES.
David Mason, business director at SES, said: "SES is pleased to
announce that Amillan has been selected as the ICT infrastructure
contractor for the Bournville College contract. Amillan has a
sterling reputation with over 25 years experience and this is the
beginning of a longer-term strategic partnership that SES has built
with Amillan.
"Throughout the tender process and design stages, Amillan
consistently impressed with its knowledge and skill, and became the
obvious choice when it came to awarding the contract."
Richard Reid, strategic development director at Amillan, said:
"Bournville College is a great win for Amillan and a good start to
our partnership with SES. Amillan is a systems integrator which
delivers a range of services, applications and interfaces to its
customers. ICT infrastructure is where the business began in 1983,
and with such experience behind us, we're well-equipped to provide
this service to Bournville College."
Norman Cave, principal of Bournville College, said: "The
location of the new campus is very important to Bournville College,
as the demise of MG Rover had a negative impact right across the
region, and we are pleased not only that Bournville College has
sparked regeneration in Longbridge, but that Amillan, a local
business, has won a key contract within the college's
construction.
"The consolidation of the existing campuses into the new
Longbridge campus gives us the opportunity to introduce the latest
ICT technologies for both our students and staff."
The new 4.2 acre campus for Bournville College will house
state-of-the-art learning facilities, including a learning resource
centre with over 300 computers, business school, conference centre,
leisure and sport facilities, construction and motor vehicle
maintenance workshops, restaurant and hair and beauty salons,
tailored for the 15,000 students enrolled at the College.
Bournville College's new campus will provide a modern learning
environment for the future generations of South West Birmingham and
beyond.
Working closely with stakeholders on all its contracts,
Amillan's consultants and engineers ensure that the ICT
infrastructure ties in seamlessly to the wider construction project
through constant dialogue with designers. Project co-ordination
during the delivery of the installation is a key element of
Amillan's service, ensuring the contract is delivered on time and
to a high standard.
