A Warwickshire village pub has reached the finals of one of the
UK's top food and drink awards.
The Peacock at Oxhill, on the outskirts of Stratford, has been
named in the final four of the National Food Pub of the Year in The
Publican's Food and Drink Awards for 2010.
Thousands of pubs throughout the UK enter the awards, which are
possibly the most prestigious within the pub industry.
The final four will all now be visited by "mystery diners" as
well as placed under the microscope by a panel of food and drink
experts.
The Peacock, which was taken over by Pam Farrell and Yvonne
Hamlett two years ago, has been no stranger to awards in recent
times, marking up several national and regional accolades.
But Pam and Yvonne were delighted to be chosen in the national
rather than local category of these particular awards.
"This really puts us in with the big boys," says chef Yvonne.
"To actually make the last four nationally is already a great
honour and a credit to all our staff. We have always tried to
deliver the very best in pub food and this shows that we must be
getting something right!"
The Publican is the weekly magazine for members of the licensed
trade and the annual awards are often referred to as the Pub
Oscars. The presentation evening will be at Park Lane's
Intercontinental hotel on November 25.
