August saw a record number of East Midlands' graduates take the
initiative in their challenging search for jobs. In a single day,
120 graduates signed up with HotProspects - smashing the specialist
recruitment agency's previous record, set four years ago, by
100%.
A further surge of interest came from prospective employers. In
the last month 30 new businesses in the region registered with the
service - the most since April 2008. Project manager Elizabeth
Wilson gives her insight on why graduate careers remain an
increasingly hot topic.
"As competition for jobs becomes tougher, more and more
graduates are stepping up their game. Statistics suggest that this
trend is set to continue, which is great news for employers.
HotProspects offers graduates the best possible start to their
careers - whether in the form of a placement, an internship, or a
first job perfectly suited to their skills. Wherever they are
placed, university leavers are gaining the professional experience
that will allow them to progress in their career.
"Equally, an increasing number of small businesses are
recognising graduates offer a cost-effective and lower risk way to
access higher level skills during unstable times. Small businesses
that don't have the level of brand awareness needed to attract top
graduates use services like HotProspects to access the best talent.
And with ERDF grant-funding available to cover the cost of the
service, there are very few things stopping businesses finding the
people they need."
It's not only registrations to HotProspects that are breaking
records, but their own staff too. Just last week, new recruit Lizi
Todd smashed the company's turnaround record by filling a vacancy
at an oil engineering company in a mere 11 minutes.
Elizabeth added: "Lizi's achievement is an apt representation of
how HotProspects is pushing standards in graduate recruitment
across the East Midlands higher and higher. It's our aim to provide
other businesses with graduates just as talented as our own
employees."
HotProspects matches current vacancies in the East Midlands to
graduates with the right skills, and aim to place 200 graduates
over 2 years.
