A local business centre is claiming to offer the UK's cheapest
high-speed internet access, after installing an innovative fibre
broadband facility in the building.
Eliot Park Innovation Centre in Nuneaton is pioneering the
connection which will enable web access at much higher speeds than
traditional copper ADSL/SDSL.
Duncan Haldane, centre manager at the Warwickshire County
Council owned business centre, said: "We have been working on this
project for some time. We knew we wanted to offer a fast,
flexible and affordable internet connection and have worked closely
with partners to design a system to match these
requirements.
"We're really proud of the service, especially because it means
we're able to eliminate awkward ISP contracts and offer access to
customers from the day they move into the building to the day they
move out in line with their tenancy agreement."
The new high speed connection was developed by IT service
provider Conduce Group to replace the 20+ low speed standard copper
ADSL lines previously used on site. Conduce Group, which is
conveniently located within Eliot Park Innovation Centre, also
offer 24/7 technical support for the service, with engineers based
onsite, should problems arise.
Steve Russell, CEO of Conduce Group, said; "The design of the
service enables customers to access as much or as little private
bandwidth as they require. The service is streamed through a
100MB fibre optic bearer, brought directly from the web into the
building. Effectively the internet is now plumbed into the
heart of the centre!"
Cllr Alan Cockburn, Warwickshire County Council's Portfolio
Holder for Environment and Economy, said: "Nuneaton has
traditionally been viewed as a manufacturing town, but the success
of new technology business hubs, such as Warwickshire County
Council owned Eliot Park Innovation Centre, show that the town has
embraced the fast moving knowledge-based economy."
Eliot Park Innovation Centre provides office space and support
services to small and medium-sized technology and knowledge-based
companies.
The new service will be available from September 2010.
