Nottingham's RH Freight, which operates the UK's largest
European road freight network, has used its unrivalled knowledge of
the Nordic countries to develop a market-leading daily service to
Helsinki.
The new service runs to the port of Travemunde in Northern
Germany, before connecting with a daily sailing from there to
Helsinki.
In the absence of daily sailings directly from the UK to
Finland, consignments have previously only departed on 2 days per
week. This limited schedule means that if a departure is missed, it
may be several days before goods can be shipped again.
By running structured, double-manned trucks, RH can operate
every day in both directions, offering a much higher level of
service and reliability to customers.
As the market leaders in terms of trailer numbers travelling
between the UK and Finland, RH Freight has the high level of volume
required to operate a daily service. Deputy Managing Director,
Andrew Baxter, said, "Offering a daily service to Finland has been
a long-term aim and we have been constantly exploring ways to
improve our service in this regard and develop the product
offering. The route via Travemunde allows us to offer a special
72-hour express product to Finland to our customers, something
which is better than anything else on offer in the marketplace.
"We had to look at many different options and potential routes
before we found the solution but now we have it in place it is
proving to be extremely successful. At the moment about a third of
the groupage that we carry to Finland is being transported on this
route."
The new market-leading service to Helsinki sits within a
portfolio of daily services to the region, including Helsingborg,
Gothenburg, Oslo and Kolding, all of which are market leading in
terms of their regular structure and transit times.
RH Freight handles 425,000 shipments per year and operates daily
to 32 European hubs.
