More than 30 Coventry and Warwickshire businesses have clubbed
together to raise over £2,000 for a Leamington charity.
Around 50 people attended the Harrison Beale and Owen (HB&O)
golf day at the Menzies Welcombe Hotel Spa and Golf Club, in
Stratford-upon-Avon, to raise funds for international
peace-building charity Cord.
The event was played under the Texas Scramble format and
included a reception breakfast, an evening meal and a charity
raffle with prizes including golf equipment and vouchers up for
grabs.
Financial experts and chartered accountants HB&O, which has
offices in Leamington and Coventry, has acted as auditors for the
charity for more than 14 years.
Mark Ashfield, a director at HB&O, said: "We were delighted
at the level of generosity demonstrated by those taking part in the
event - particularly during what is an uncertain financial climate
for many.
"The event proved to be a great success and we are delighted
that so many people took time out of their busy schedules to
support the valuable work which Cord undertakes."
Cord is the nominated charity of HB&O and works to help
rebuild communities and homes, provide education and promote a
peaceful future in areas affected by conflict.
The charity was formed in 1967 and works in Burundi, Chad and
Northern Uganda in Africa as well as Cambodia and Laos in Asia to
build lasting peace and sustainable futures by developing
programmes focusing on education, livelihoods and sanitation.
Brian Wakley, chief executive from Cord, said: "We believe
partnership is vital in the peace-building process and are very
grateful to HB&O for their generosity in hosting this fantastic
day.
"Building mutually beneficial partnerships with UK-based
companies enables Cord to continue to support local partners in
Africa and Asia, helping communities build a path out of violent
conflict."
