Michelin has joined forces with Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent
County Councils and will tour the county's schools to promote road
safety to more than 1,600 year 11 pupils.
After securing a grant from the European Commission's Road
Safety for Young People in Europe (ROSYPE) project, Michelin will
be using live performances, puppetry, films, thought-provoking
exercises and debates to engage positively with the young people
and get the important message home about road safety.
The puppetry element of the show will be the Routes Live show
which is produced and presented by the Puppet Broadcasting Company,
as featured on Dragons' Den. Their past work has been seen in
schools around the UK and they have a strong track record of
producing engaging material for teenagers.
Commenting on the roadshow, project leader, Corinne Li from
Michelin said: 'As a major local employer we are keen to get
involved with different activities across the county and with our
core business being related to transport, road safety is a natural
choice. We hope that these shows will have a big impact on
youngsters' behaviour and will result in a positive change in their
attitudes to this subject'.
Each school, in addition to the show, will receive a DVD which
includes a 15 module multi-subject road safety educational toolkit
covering years 7-11 and featuring studies on all aspects of road
safety education.
Staffordshire County Councillor Mike Maryon, Cabinet member for
Road Safety, said: 'I'm delighted that Michelin is supporting
Staffordshire's road safety campaign and doing its bit to educate
young people on the importance of being careful when they venture
out on to the roads. The workshops will be fun but will also drive
home a vitally important message to youngsters.'
This initiative follows a successful pilot show that was run at
Madeley High School in April and the forthcoming roadshows will run
from 20 September to 1 October at eight schools.
